People communicate and take in information in different ways.
You may find forms or long documents difficult, need information in another language, need more time to process information, have difficulty using the telephone, or need meetings arranged differently.
If something would make mediation easier for you, tell us. We can discuss what support or adjustments may help you take part.
Reading, forms and written information
If forms or long documents are difficult for you, please let us know.
Where appropriate, we may be able to:
- explain information verbally;
- break information into shorter sections;
- provide clearer summaries;
- give you more time to read or complete information;
- help you understand what is required before your meeting.
Many of our information pages can also be listened to using the “Listen to this page” option at the top of the page.
Neurodiversity and different ways of processing information
If you are dyslexic, have ADHD, are autistic, or simply take in and organise information differently, please tell us what would help.
Depending on your needs, we may be able to:
- talk information through rather than rely only on written material;
- provide shorter summaries;
- deal with one topic at a time;
- allow more time to process information;
- build in breaks;
- explain clearly what each meeting will cover;
- give you time before asking you to make decisions.
You do not need a diagnosis to ask for support.
Language support
Family mediation information is available in a growing number of languages.
You can read or listen to information about mediation, MIAMs and child arrangements in Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic and Somali, and read it in Portuguese.

Mediation is held directly in English, Bengali and Hindi, with Portuguese available in house for an additional £60 per hour; other languages with an interpreter at an additional cost, and interpreter support may be available for others depending on the circumstances.
Hearing, speech and communication
You do not have to telephone us if telephone communication is difficult for you.
You can contact Salam Mediation by email or WhatsApp.
If you need captions, an interpreter or another communication adjustment for an online meeting, tell us before the appointment so we can discuss what may be arranged.
Meetings and appointments
If the usual way of arranging or taking part in a meeting may be difficult for you, please tell us.
Depending on your needs and the circumstances, support may include:
- extra time;
- breaks during meetings;
- online meeting arrangements;
- interpreter or communication support;
- shuttle mediation where appropriate;
- another reasonable adjustment discussed with you in advance.
You do not need to know what adjustment to ask for
It might be as simple as:
- I find long forms difficult.
- I need communication by email.
- I need more time to process information.
- I need an interpreter.
- I would find it difficult to be in the same meeting as the other participant.
We can then discuss the most suitable way to support you.
How to tell us
You can tell us about any support or adjustment you may need when you first contact Salam Mediation, when completing your MIAM information, or before your appointment.
If you have already booked a meeting, please contact us as early as you can so we can discuss what may be arranged.
