Mediation for families in Brighton
Sussex family cases are heard at the Brighton Family Court on William Street, and at Worthing and Hastings for the coast either side. The court expects a MIAM before a C100 or Form A. Brighton has the highest proportion of self-employed and freelance workers of any city in the South, and one of the largest LGBTQ+ communities in the country – separations here often involve irregular income, a jointly owned flat and, in same-sex families, questions about parental responsibility that mediation handles with care.
Most people choose an online MIAM because it can be held within days, at a time that suits them, from home. Joint sessions are the same – usually two to four of them, online, with in-person appointments by arrangement. We work with couples of every kind, and the mediator stays neutral throughout.

Which court hears your case depends on where the children live, and the court confirms it when you apply. Before a C100 for children or a Form A for finances it expects a MIAM first, and our certificate is accepted at every family court in England and Wales. If proceedings have already started, mediation can run alongside them.

Questions people in Brighton ask
Where is Brighton family court?
Brighton Family Court, William Street, in the city centre, for Brighton and Hove, Lewes and Mid Sussex; Worthing and Hastings hear cases along the coast. Our MIAM certificate is accepted at all of them.
I am self-employed – how does disclosure work?
You disclose what you have and earn – accounts, tax returns, bank statements – on the same basis a court would use. The mediator helps you both make sense of irregular income and records the agreed figures.
Is the Government voucher available?
Yes. Where your case involves arrangements for children, the Family Mediation Voucher gives up to £500 per family towards joint sessions. It is applied to your invoice, so you pay the difference.
