Mediation for families in Camden
The Central Family Court is on High Holborn, inside Camden, and a lot of London's family lawyers work within walking distance of it. That makes Camden an unusual place to separate: you may already have a solicitor, a court that is a short walk away, and a worry that every letter between the two firms costs money. Mediation is the way to take some of that cost out, and solicitors can stay in the background to advise you between sessions.
Being next door to the court does not make the waits shorter – the Central Family Court is one of the busiest in the country. A MIAM takes an hour and we can usually hold one online within days; joint sessions are online, or in person by arrangement. Either way you leave with a written record you can show your solicitor, not a hearing date that is months away.

Which court hears your case depends on where the children live, and the court confirms it when you apply. Before a C100 for children or a Form A for finances it expects a MIAM first, and our certificate is accepted at every family court in England and Wales. If proceedings have already started, mediation can run alongside them.

Questions people in Camden ask
Where is the Central Family Court?
First Avenue House, 42–49 High Holborn, London WC1V 6NP, in the London Borough of Camden. The official court page on GOV.UK has opening times and directions.
Can I keep my solicitor while mediating in Camden?
Yes, and it is often the best arrangement. You take advice between sessions, the mediator helps the two of you reach agreement, and your solicitor can turn the outcome into a consent order if you need one.
Is a family mediator the same as a family solicitor?
No. A family mediator is trained to help the two of you reach your own agreement and does not act for either of you or give legal advice. That is why many people see a family solicitor alongside mediation, to check the agreement before it is made binding. If you already have one, they can stay involved in the background.
How much does family mediation cost in Camden?
A MIAM is £125 per person online, and joint mediation is £180 per person for 120 minutes, usually over two to four sessions. Where children are involved the Government voucher takes up to £500 per family off the joint sessions. The fees are the same wherever you live and are published in full on the fees page.
Can I get a MIAM certificate for the Central Family Court?
Yes. The certificate is signed by an FMC-accredited mediator after your MIAM, is valid for four months, and is accepted at the Central Family Court and every other family court in England and Wales.
Is the Government voucher available?
Yes. Where your case involves arrangements for children, the Family Mediation Voucher gives up to £500 per family towards joint sessions. It is applied to your invoice, so you pay the difference.
