Mediation for families in Essex
Many Essex separations involve a commute: one parent into London, the other doing the school run in Brentwood, Billericay or Basildon. Mediation online fits around that – evenings and Saturdays are available, and nobody has to cross the county for an appointment.
Chelmsford Justice Centre on Priory Place is the family court for much of mid-Essex; applications from elsewhere in the county can be listed at other courts, and the court confirms the venue when you apply. Whichever it is, it expects a MIAM first. We hold MIAMs online within days, and the certificate is accepted at every family court in England and Wales.

Which court hears your case depends on where the children live, and the court confirms it when you apply. Before a C100 for children or a Form A for finances it expects a MIAM first, and our certificate is accepted at every family court in England and Wales. If proceedings have already started, mediation can run alongside them.

Questions people in Essex ask
Where is the family court for Essex?
Chelmsford Justice Centre, Priory Place, New London Road, Chelmsford CM2 0PP, hears family cases for much of mid-Essex. The court confirms the venue when you apply, and the GOV.UK court finder shows the nearest.
Is a family mediator the same as a family solicitor?
No. A family mediator is trained to help the two of you reach your own agreement and does not act for either of you or give legal advice. That is why many people see a family solicitor alongside mediation, to check the agreement before it is made binding. If you already have one, they can stay involved in the background.
How much does family mediation cost in Essex?
A MIAM is £125 per person online, and joint mediation is £180 per person for 120 minutes, usually over two to four sessions. Where children are involved the Government voucher takes up to £500 per family off the joint sessions. The fees are the same wherever you live and are published in full on the fees page.
Can we mediate in the evening or at weekends?
Yes. Online sessions are available in the evening and on Saturdays.
Is the Government voucher available?
Yes. Where your case involves arrangements for children, the Family Mediation Voucher gives up to £500 per family towards joint sessions. It is applied to your invoice, so you pay the difference.
