Mediation for families in Hackney

Hackney separations tend to come in two shapes. Couples in Dalston, Clapton and Stoke Newington who bought or rent together, are self-employed or work in the creative industries, and whose finances are irregular and hard to prove. And families in Stamford Hill and around the estates for whom faith, community and a large family are central. Both need a mediator who can work with disclosure that is not a tidy payslip.

Hackney is served by the East London Family Court in Canary Wharf, which expects a MIAM before a children or finance application. We hold MIAMs online within days, and see couples in person in Hackney by appointment, in a private, neutral room. Two to four joint sessions is typical; the £500 voucher applies where children are involved.

Which court hears your case depends on where the children live, and the court confirms it when you apply. Before a C100 for children or a Form A for finances it expects a MIAM first, and our certificate is accepted at every family court in England and Wales. If proceedings have already started, mediation can run alongside them.

How it works

  1. A free 15-minute chatTell us what is going on. We tell you honestly whether mediation could work.
  2. Your MIAMAn hour with the mediator. If both of you want to go ahead, we book the first joint session.
  3. Joint sessionsOnline or in Hackney by arrangement. Same room or separate rooms – your choice.
  4. A written recordA Parenting Plan or financial Memorandum of Understanding. It is not itself a court order; a legal adviser can turn it into one where needed.

“From start to finish, Tawhid was professional, supportive and genuinely focused on a positive outcome. Communication was prompt and respectful – I always felt heard and understood.”

Questions people in Hackney ask

I am self-employed – how does financial disclosure work?

You disclose what you have and what you earn – accounts, tax returns, bank statements – on the same Form E-style basis a court would use. The mediator helps you both make sense of irregular income, and the Memorandum of Understanding records what was agreed and on what figures.

Which court hears Hackney cases?

The East London Family Court at Westferry Circus, Canary Wharf. A MIAM is expected first; our certificate is accepted there.

Is the Government voucher available?

Yes. Where your case involves arrangements for children, the Family Mediation Voucher gives up to £500 per family towards joint sessions. It is applied to your invoice, so you pay the difference.
