Mediation for families in Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire separations tend to be well organised on paper and exhausting in practice: a house with a mortgage and equity, two pensions, children at different schools, and two working parents who both commute. Daytime appointments are the hardest part. We hold online sessions that fit around the working day, including evenings and Saturdays, so that mediation does not become another thing to take leave for.

The family court for much of the county is Watford County and Family Court on King Street. It will ask whether you have attended a MIAM before an application about children or money. We can hold yours within days, online, and the certificate is accepted at Watford and at every other family court in England and Wales.

Which court hears your case depends on where the children live, and the court confirms it when you apply. Before a C100 for children or a Form A for finances it expects a MIAM first, and our certificate is accepted at every family court in England and Wales. If proceedings have already started, mediation can run alongside them.

Questions people in Hertfordshire ask

Where is the family court for Hertfordshire?

Watford County and Family Court, 10 King Street, Watford WD18 0BW, hears many Hertfordshire applications. Which court deals with your case depends on where the children live, and the court confirms it when you apply.

Is a family mediator the same as a family solicitor?

No. A family mediator is trained to help the two of you reach your own agreement and does not act for either of you or give legal advice. That is why many people see a family solicitor alongside mediation, to check the agreement before it is made binding. If you already have one, they can stay involved in the background.

Can we mediate in the evening or at weekends?

Yes. Online sessions are available in the evening and on Saturdays, which is when most people with full-time jobs find it easiest.

How much does family mediation cost in Hertfordshire?

A MIAM is £125 per person online, and joint mediation is £180 per person for 120 minutes, usually over two to four sessions. Where children are involved the Government voucher takes up to £500 per family off the joint sessions. The fees are the same wherever you live and are published in full on the fees page.

Can we mediate if one of us has moved out of Hertfordshire?

Yes. Online mediation does not care where either of you lives, which is useful when one parent has moved to London or another county.

Is the Government voucher available?

Yes. Where your case involves arrangements for children, the Family Mediation Voucher gives up to £500 per family towards joint sessions. It is applied to your invoice, so you pay the difference.
