Mediation for families in Kent
Kent is a long county, and for many families a court hearing means a drive across it. Dartford and Gravesend sit close to London, Medway and Maidstone have their own centres, and a couple who have separated may now live forty minutes apart. Online mediation suits that: nobody drives, and you can both join from where you are.
The family court for the Medway towns is Medway County Court and Family Court at Gun Wharf in Chatham; applications from elsewhere in Kent can be listed at other courts, and the court confirms the venue when you apply. Whichever it is, it will expect a MIAM first. We hold them online, usually within days, and the certificate is accepted at all of them.

Which court hears your case depends on where the children live, and the court confirms it when you apply. Before a C100 for children or a Form A for finances it expects a MIAM first, and our certificate is accepted at every family court in England and Wales. If proceedings have already started, mediation can run alongside them.

Questions people in Kent ask
Where is the family court for Kent?
Medway County Court and Family Court, Gun Wharf, Chatham ME4 4AR, is the one for the Medway towns. Other Kent applications may be heard elsewhere; the court confirms the venue when you apply, and the GOV.UK court finder shows the nearest.
Is a family mediator the same as a family solicitor?
No. A family mediator is trained to help the two of you reach your own agreement and does not act for either of you or give legal advice. That is why many people see a family solicitor alongside mediation, to check the agreement before it is made binding. If you already have one, they can stay involved in the background.
One of us is in Kent and one is in London – where do we meet?
Online is the usual answer, and most couples in that position never need to meet in person. If you would rather sit down together, we can arrange a private, neutral room somewhere reasonable for both of you.
How much does family mediation cost in Kent?
A MIAM is £125 per person online, and joint mediation is £180 per person for 120 minutes, usually over two to four sessions. Where children are involved the Government voucher takes up to £500 per family off the joint sessions. The fees are the same wherever you live and are published in full on the fees page.
Can we do financial mediation online?
Yes. Both of you share your financial disclosure securely, and the mediator goes through it with you on screen. Many people find it easier than doing it across a table.
Is the Government voucher available?
Yes. Where your case involves arrangements for children, the Family Mediation Voucher gives up to £500 per family towards joint sessions. It is applied to your invoice, so you pay the difference.
