Mediation for families in Romford and Havering

Havering is the London borough that feels most like Essex, and its separations often look like it: a family home with a mortgage and equity, a pension built over a long career, and teenagers who have a view about where they want to live. Financial mediation with full disclosure, and a Parenting Plan the children have been consulted on, is a common shape for the work.

Havering applications go to the East London Family Court at Westferry Circus in Canary Wharf, a journey of about forty minutes from Romford, and it expects a MIAM first. We hold MIAMs online within days, and see people in person by arrangement.

Which court hears your case depends on where the children live, and the court confirms it when you apply. Before a C100 for children or a Form A for finances it expects a MIAM first, and our certificate is accepted at every family court in England and Wales. If proceedings have already started, mediation can run alongside them.

Questions people in Romford ask

Do Romford cases go to Chelmsford or London?

Havering is a London borough, so applications about children or finances normally go to the East London Family Court, 11 Westferry Circus, Canary Wharf E14 4HD, rather than into Essex. The court confirms the venue when you apply.

Can our teenagers have a say?

Yes. With older children it is common to agree how their views will be heard – sometimes through the mediator, sometimes through a conversation between the two of you. The Parenting Plan is written with their wishes in mind.

How much does family mediation cost in Romford?

A MIAM is £125 per person online, and joint mediation is £180 per person for 120 minutes, usually over two to four sessions. Where children are involved the Government voucher takes up to £500 per family off the joint sessions. The fees are the same wherever you live and are published in full on the fees page.

Can I get a MIAM certificate for the East London Family Court?

Yes. After your MIAM, the mediator signs the certificate. It is valid for four months and accepted at the East London Family Court and every other family court in England and Wales.

Is the Government voucher available?

Yes. Where your case involves arrangements for children, the Family Mediation Voucher gives up to £500 per family towards joint sessions. It is applied to your invoice, so you pay the difference.
