Mediation for families in South London
South of the river the family courts are spread out – Croydon, Bromley and the Central Family Court all take cases from these boroughs – and a hearing can mean a long trip across town with the children in school. Mediation happens where you are: online from home, or in person by appointment in a private, neutral room.

Which court hears your case depends on where the children live, and the court confirms it when you apply. Which family court covers South London?
Croydon and Sutton go to the Croydon County Court and Family Court; Bromley, Bexley and often Greenwich and Lewisham to the Bromley County Court and Family Court; Lambeth, Southwark, Wandsworth and Merton usually to the Central Family Court in Holborn. My ex wants to move out of London with the children – can mediation help?
Yes, and it is one of the best uses of it. A move within England does not need the court's permission, but the arrangements for contact, travel and schooling do need agreeing, and a judge will expect to see that you tried mediation before applying for a prohibited steps or specific issue order.
Is the Government voucher available?
Yes. Where your case involves arrangements for children, the Family Mediation Voucher gives up to £500 per family towards joint sessions. It is applied to your invoice, so you pay the difference.
