Mediation for families in Tower Hamlets

The East London Family Court is in the borough itself, at Westferry Circus, and it is one of the busiest family courts in the country. A judge there will ask whether you have attended a MIAM. Can the whole mediation be in Bengali?
Yes. Bengali-speaking families can mediate with the mediator directly, without an interpreter. Written agreements are produced in English for the court and solicitors, and explained in Bengali.
Does mediation respect Islamic family arrangements?
The mediator is neutral and does not give religious rulings, but what matters to you both – the mahr, a nikah, family expectations about the children – is part of the conversation, not something left at the door. Many couples bring a religious settlement and a civil one into line through mediation.

Is the Government voucher available?
Yes. Where your case involves arrangements for children, the Family Mediation Voucher gives up to £500 per family towards joint sessions. It is applied to your invoice, so you pay the difference.
