Understanding Financial Settlements Through Mediation

Many people are unsure how financial settlement mediation works or how it can help after separation or divorce. When finances feel stuck or tense, it can seem like court is the only way forward.

This online information event explains how mediation can help people talk through financial issues and explore practical options without going straight to court. It also explains how courts view mediation and why it is often suggested as a first step.

The session is for people who are separating, divorced, or living apart and need to resolve financial matters. This includes situations involving property, savings, pensions, debts, and ongoing financial support. It is suitable for those at an early stage and those who have been separated for some time.

What the session will cover

  • What financial settlement mediation is and how it works
  • What financial information is usually shared
  • How property, savings, pensions, and debts are discussed
  • How proposals are explored in mediation
  • What usually happens if finances go to court
  • Common challenges and how people deal with them
  • When mediation may not be suitable and what other options exist

There will be time for questions. You can submit questions when you register or ask them during the session.
