Understanding Child Arrangements Through Family Mediation
Many parents are not sure what family mediation is or how it helps when child arrangements become difficult. When contact breaks down, it can feel like going to court is the only option.
This online information event explains how mediation can help parents talk about child arrangements and explore ways forward without going straight to court. It also explains how courts view mediation and why it is often suggested as a first step.
The session is for parents who are separating, divorced, or living apart, including parents who have little or no contact with their child. It will cover common situations, such as recent separation, long gaps in contact, young children, distance between homes, and communication problems.
What the session will cover
- What family mediation is and how it works
- How child arrangements are discussed
- Ways contact can start or restart
- What usually happens if parents go to court
- Common challenges and how parents deal with them
- When mediation may not be suitable and what other options exist
There will be time for questions. You can submit questions when you register or ask them during the session.
