This notice covers this website. Ask us for the current version at any time and we will send it to you.

Cookies and tracking
This website sets no cookies. It also loads nothing from anybody else’s server: no analytics, no advertising, no social media buttons, no chat widget, and no fonts fetched from a third party. The typefaces are served from this website. The one exception is the short film on our home page: nothing loads until you press play, and if you do, the film comes from YouTube, which may then set its own cookies – see our cookies page.
That is a deliberate choice rather than an oversight. People read these pages at difficult moments, and what somebody reads on a family mediation website is nobody else’s business. Because nothing is tracked, there is no cookie banner and nothing for you to consent to or opt out of.
Visiting the website
Our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs, as almost every web server does. These record the requesting IP address, the date and time, the page requested and the browser used. They exist so that faults can be diagnosed and abuse can be blocked. They are not used to build any profile of you and are not combined with anything else.
Contacting us or booking an appointment
If you use a form on this site we collect only what the form asks for:
- your name
- your email address
- your mobile number
- whether your situation concerns children, finances or both
- the best time to reach you, and whether you have asked for a standard or urgent call back
- a short message, if you write one
- anything you choose to tell us about what would make communication or your meeting easier – for example a disability or a language need. You do not have to answer this question. If you do, we use what you tell us only to make those arrangements, on the basis of your explicit consent, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
We use those details to reply to you and to arrange the appointment, and for nothing else. They are not sold, not shared with anybody for marketing, and not added to any mailing list. Our email is provided by Microsoft 365.
Please keep any message short, and do not use a website form, or WhatsApp, to send us details of your situation. A short message asking about mediation is fine. The account of what has happened belongs in the appointment itself, where it is confidential.
The legal basis we rely on
- Answering an enquiry and arranging an appointment: taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us.
- Keeping the website secure: our legitimate interest in protecting the site and diagnosing faults.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- be told how your personal data is used
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- have inaccurate personal data corrected
- ask us to erase personal data, in certain circumstances
- object to, or ask us to restrict, our use of it, in certain circumstances
- ask for it in a portable form, in certain circumstances
There is no charge for exercising these rights. We will ask you to confirm your identity first, and we will respond within one month. Some rights do not apply where we are required by law to keep information, and if that is the case we will tell you which exemption applies and why.
To make a request, email info@salammediation.co.uk.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information
Please tell us first, so that we have the chance to put it right. You also have the right to complain directly to the Information Commissioner’s Office, which is the UK regulator for data protection.
- ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint
- Telephone 0303 123 1113
Complaints about the mediation service itself, rather than about your information, are dealt with under our complaints procedure.
Links to other websites
Where we link to another organisation – GOV.UK, the Family Mediation Council, a support service – that organisation has its own privacy notice, and this one does not cover it.
